I listen to my children when they have a few minutes downtime and I can bet my bottom dollar that the word boredom will come up in the conversation somewhere.
Let’s face it, with our busy lifestyles we’re just used to packing an activity into every single waking minute. With today’s fast pace lifestyle attention span on any particular activity is limited.
As a Global society we’ve grown more and more adverse to long term programs that reap sustainable benefits, we now want it quick fried and microwaved.
This is why when it’s time to focus and stick to a long term healthy lifestyle program or financial improvement plan, we just cannot seem to stay on track. We’ve become addicted to catchy titles like ‘Get slim in 10 days just by drinking a particular juice’ or ‘Get rich Quick but don’t adjust your reckless behavior’. Somehow we’ve bought into the lie that a big ball of success will just fall into our laps with absolutely no effort on our part.
Just as we decide to take the plunge into something significant and sustainable up pop those fast track voices that say, “That’s going to take too long, you don’t have a lot of time, take a pill, click your heals and like Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz you’ll be back in Kansas City before you know it”.
Unfortunately long lasting change doesn’t work like that.
Consistency is one of the main keys to successful outcomes. There’s no quick fix and deep down we all know it. There’s part of the dreaded mundane that builds perseverance in us and causes us to grow stickability.
So my encouragement today is…
Keep at it!
Building lasting change is like basic hygiene. Just as you have to make that a practice everyday, you have to work on your goals everyday so that old habits don’t seep back in and new habits can be formed.
Keep at it! If you do, you’ll build habits, behaviors and beliefs that go way past this 50 Day Change Challenge. You’ll build a lifestyle that ensures a better you!
